For a socially and ethically transparent clothing brand for kids, we [Fulcrum] wanted to express just that. A natural photo shoot that explored the unshakable curiosity that drives every child.
Using the talent of local photographer Megan Leigh Barnard and our own Zach Wilke, it started in Hocking Hills State Park, in between mossy logs, towering trees, and rigid rock formations our objective was to let the kids be kids as we photographed the children just being themselves. Climbing, running, wading in the streams, jumping in patch of mud, sliding down soft hillsides, and discovering small creatures in the grass.
The method of filming we chose to execute was that of a passive observer. Our goal was to not disturb the kids exploring and interacting with the natural surroundings. Filming was completed in tandem during downtime in between lifestyle shots.
Because the filming process was more of an invisible role this allowed the children to direct us during the filming. They chose where to sit or climb.
This method allowed us to discover the authentic personal relationships between the groups of kids and our interview questions and revealed to them that they spent more time outside and special family moments than they thought.
